2. Sacrificial Love

Sacrificial love is an important Christian theme and one that we encounter many times in the Star Wars series. There are many examples of sacrificial love that appear in the Star Wars movies. "No one has greater love than this to lay down one's life for one's friends" (John 15:13).

Darth Vadar sacrifices his own life in order to save his son Luke Skywalker in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. His love for his son overpowered the hatred in him and he saved his son by sacrificing himself and defeating the evil sith. In Episode IV: A New Hope, Obi Wan Kenobi sacrifices his terrestrial body in order to trick Vadar and let his friends escape, while still being able to communicate to Luke through the force. Some Christians might argue that the sacrifice of his terrestrial body is an analogy for the Holy Spirit. Luke Skywalker does the same thing in the latest Star Wars movie The Last Jedi, when Kylo Ren is approaching the spot where the rebels are hiding out. Luke sacrifices his terrestrial body in order to save his friends and let the rebels escape.
